HBO expands direct to consumer service to seven more Central European countries
 30 Nov 2017
Launched on November 29, in Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia & Herzegovina, HBO Europe’s SVOD service HBO GO is available direct to consumers over the internet, the company announced in a press release.

HBO GO enables subscribers to enjoy all seasons of popular and critically-acclaimed HBO Original content such as Game of Thrones, Westworld and Silicon Valley alongside popular classic series like Sex and the City, The Sopranos and The Wire. Subscribers will also get access to HBO Europe local programming including acclaimed series like Shadows (Romania), Burning Bush (Czech Republic), The Pack (Poland) and Golden Life (Hungary) and future originals from the Adria region with series currently in development in Serbia and Croatia, as well as a large selection of critically-acclaimed documentaries, including upcoming The Other Side of Everything (Serbia) which won the top prize at IDFA last week.

In addition, HBO GO premieres a long list of brand new hit movies such as Beauty and the Beast, Trainspotting 2, Jackie and Assassin’s Creed, an extensive catalogue of movies, a wide range of kids programming as well as top series from other content providers e.g. The Handmaid’s Tale, Babylon Berlin, Billions, Twin Peaks & Luther. New titles are added on a weekly basis with a broad range premiering simultaneously with the US.

Hervé Payan, CEO of HBO Europe, said: “With the further expansion of HBO GO into seven additional territories we are making it even easier for consumers to become HBO subscribers. New subscribers can look forward to our unique offering of internationally-acclaimed programming and locally-produced drama and documentaries, with our continued investment in local programming, including most recently in Croatia and Serbia, enabling us meet the needs of audiences across our region.”

The new OTT service will be available on computers, smartphones, tablets, Apple TV, Chromecast, Samsung Smart TVs and on PlayStation. Each HBO GO subscriber may add up to five devices and use two concurrent streams at the same time. All new subscribers who choose this option will have a one-month free trial for the premium content offered by HBO GO. The subscription fee will be paid via credit card provided while registering.

The direct to consumer offering is in addition to the already established HBO channels and services in Central European territories. HBO GO will continue to be available through local distribution partners with TV and internet packages.
