It is 1979. Mikhail Fyodorov, a criminal investigator at the Fraud Office, dies under puzzling circumstances in a small coastal town with a fishing port. Alexander Kostenko, his colleague and close friend, finds out that Fyodorov’s death was not an accident. He takes on the criminal case himself but suddenly he is suspended from office without explanation. To restore justice, Kostenko flies to Moscow to meet with the Prosecutor General. At Sheremetyevo airport, he becomes an inadvertent witness of smuggling of a large sum of money in foreign currency. Kostenko initiates the arrest of the smuggler who turns out to be Arkady Lipman, an executive at the Fisheries Ministry. Kostenko proves to be a real professional, a man of principle and a scrupulous investigator and attracts not only the attention of the USSR Prosecutor General’s office, but of the Party’s officials and the Fisheries Ministry officers involved in the foreign currency scandal...

Caviar was directed by Vitaly Vorobiev. The series stars well-known Russian actors Pavel Maikov, Dariya Moroz, Igor Sklyar, Vilma Kutavichute, Dmitry Mulyar, Andrei Smirnov, Anastasia Makeeva, Yulia Rutberg etc.

I wanted to show a tragedy of a man who collided with the Soviet regime. Thereat, all the film tools – the work of cameramen, editing, acting, music, action – hold the audience spellbound from the first till the last minute!” - says director Vitaly Vorobiev.
