BBC Studios sums up recent format deals in Greece
BBC Studios yesterday announced a duo of format license sales into Greece at its annual BBC Studios Showcase event in Liverpool. Both have been previously reported on by CEETV.
As we reported first, Star Cannel will be the new Greek home for Dancing with the Stars, the global dancing format from BBC Studios. The broadcaster has licensed two series - the seventh and eighth in market – with the first airing on the channel in fall this year.
Meanwhile Just the Two of Us, the competition format which pairs up internationally recognized singers with famous faces to perform live duets, will air this spring on Open TV. The 14 x 120’ episodes will be produced by Koklonis Media.
The new agreements mean that there will be three BBC Studios formats airing in Greece during 2020 following the license of classic gameshow The Weakest Link to Kapa Studios for Skai. The 100 x 60’ episode series is currently on air and has Tasos Trifonos, the host of the highly successful Cypriot version, carrying out the hosting duties.
Andre Renaud, SVP Global Format sales for BBC Studios said: “High quality and returnable entertainment formats are in high demand in Greece as broadcasters compete for audiences. Greek broadcasters are increasingly looking to BBC Studios and our raft of entertaining formats to meet their demand for compelling and high-impact shows that have proven to deliver audiences in a highly competitive marketplace.”
