NGCI extends Nat Geo People to Romania and Poland
National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) announced today the extension of Nat Geo People’s distribution in Central and Eastern Europe with the launches of the channel in Romania on September 1 and Poland on October 1. Nat Geo People is the newest NGCI brand and it offers unfiltered, intimate access to inspiring stories of real people all over the world. The channel will be picked up as linear and non-linear versions through Telekom in Romania along with National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild and through Cyfrowy, Polsat and nc+ in Poland along with National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild and FOX.
Since the successful launches in other European markets including Denmark, Germany, Italy, and Turkey, Nat Geo People has established itself as an integral part of the Nat Geo family with a slight skew towards female viewers, which perfectly complements the slightly male-skewed profile of National Geographic Channel, and Nat Geo Wild remains as the source of blue-chip wildlife and nature programming. Among those extraordinary characters, Nat Geo People will bring to Romania and Poland the fascinating stories of Italian chef David Rocco through its series “David Rocco's Dolce Vita”, where the charismatic chef travels through Italy – the country of his ancestors – in an unusual style combining culture, food and diversity through the most interesting characters and the flavor of the Italian “Dolce Vita”. Nat Geo People will also include in its launch phase the series “4 Babies a Second” – an original production about the wonder of childbirth. The series is told from the point of view of families and medical staff assisting at birth in four different countries and cultures. How do you celebrate the moment of birth? Are the emotions the same everywhere? Are common issues that occur during childbirth similar in every country? There are many differences across various cultures, but all people share the same concern and love for their children. Nat Geo People will also bring other series that have successfully premiere in other countries, such as: “Ladyboys”, a series focused on the connection between British expats and their ladyboy lovers in Thailand; “Forbidden Love”, which explores less conventional relationships and the challenges they face; and Banged Up Abroad”, one of the most successful National Geographic Channel programs worldwide.
