German remake for Fatmagul
Eccho Rights has signed a deal with German producer Bantry Bay Productions for the remake rights to the hit Turkish drama Fatmagul from Ay Yapim. The producer will develop a version for German speaking Europe, the distributor reports today.
Bantry Bay produced the hit series Club der roten Bänder (German version of The Red Band Society) about a group of children on a hospital ward, based on the Catalan drama Polseres Vermelles. The show won audience and critical acclaim when it aired on Vox and went on to win Best Series at the German Television Awards 2016. “Fatmagul has already proved to be a global hit as a readymade so we are really pleased to announce the first remake in Germany. With a first rate producer at the helm we can’t wait to see how they approach the script. We have several other re-makes in the works around the world for this great series,” says Fredrik af Malmborg, managing director at Eccho Rights. Originally produced by Ay Yapim, Fatmagul is one of the most successful Turkish drama series ever and has aired across the world with outstanding audience figures, especially in Latin America. The series is based on a novel by Vedat Turkali and tells the story of young Fatmagul. One night she is raped by three men and her life falls apart. Her fiancée leaves her and she is forced to marry a man who was present when she was raped. Fatmagul vows to fight and turns against the evil structures in society to get justice. RELATED
