The Turkish broadcasters, distributors, producers and cooperative associations released a joint statement to their international partners following the failed coup attempt in the country with the aim to “understand what really happened”.
CEETV published the statement in full which is titled “We Stand Together for Democracy: “We have observed that the failed coup attempt that took place on July 15 was not covered properly by the international media and as being your first point of contacts and friends residing in Turkey, we wanted to clearly address the situation. On the evening of July 15, a group of renegade officers from Turkey’s military sought to impose their will on the citizens of the Republic through an armed coup. This unfortunate night orchestrated by a a group of uniformed terrorists left behind 241 lost lives and many innocent people injured. However, our government has taken all necessary measures to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The “state of emergency” declared only affects legal processes and not everyday life and/or the status of production which continues as planned. Turkish nation has proven its strong commitment to democracy on the night of July 15th. The fate and future of Turkey is in the hands of 80 million Turkish citizens’ democratic choices and this right cannot be stolen by the detrimental agendas of Gulenist Terror Organization or any other. No words can describe how sorry we are for what has transpired. However, we are more unified as a nation and now fully dedicated to take this beautiful country forward. In favor of democracy, constitutional order and the principles of the rule of law, we all condemn this coup and wish to declare support for the democratically elected government and the Turkish state against the plotters. Having entered into more than 110 countries around the world, Turkish content will continue its journey by the utmost endeavor energized by the entire industry and we all will be happy to continue to cooperate with our valuable partners. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners and colleagues who have expressed their concern and support for us throughout this period.” The letter has been signed by TRT, ATV, Kanal D, Show TV, Star, TV8, Kanal 7, tivibu, Digiturk, D Smart, Ay Yapim, TIMS Productions, NTC Medya, Limon, Koliba, Pana Film, Global Agency, ITV Intermedya, Calinos, Eccho Rights and Endemol Shine Turkey among others.
