Fairpress: Who’s to blame for the faulty contracts of TVR?
Fairpress.eu has published a piece by Septimius Parvu, regarding the recent developments around pubcaster TVR that saw anticorruption prosecutors requesting from the Senate – the institution that supervises the television – documents related to procurement procedures done between 2005 and 2015.
The Permanent Bureau of the Senate decided to sent the documents to DNA if they are not classified. The prosecutors are searching for commercial contracts that may have been subject of crimes. The vice president of the Senate, Ioan Chelaru, declared that the prosecutors want to receive copies of the reports done by the enquiry committee related to the activity of the national TV, together with the documents related to the reports. DNA picked up documents from the National TV. One of the issues of these declarations may be the fact that these reports, done by the inquiry commission have never been published and stayed in the drawers of a Parliamentary commission, as Iulian Comănescu observes. In July, one of the members of the National Audio-Visual Council wrote a public letter to the employees and stated that there is a long list of procurement issues that the national television has. In April, the Administration Council was asked to destroy goods, but some items could not be found. Moreover, Oana Stăncilescu mentioned that TVR bought breast volume enhancing cream, beach lotion, urinary and hepatic protection, anti-wrinkle creams and others. But the issues of the TVR are much bigger and do not resume to tanning cream. Although there is not enough information at this point, the prosecutors may look documents related to the costs of TV shows or the broadcast rights of football championships, as huge sums have been spent on matches that have never proved to return the investment. Comănescu also indicates that expensive equipment may be a probable cause, as the TV station bought good equipment that is not used for its purpose. Dragoș Bocanaciu, the President of the SPUS-TV union declared that they sent two complaints to the prosecutors on TVR: one is related to Splendid media, a company that deals publicity and that owes TVR five million Euros and the procurement of 140 cars, although TVR has just 80 drivers. The reaction of the current management related to the declarations of Ms Stănculescu is that these items are bought from sponsorships and they cannot be hold responsible, as the procurement has been done by the former management team. Until we find out what is the cause of the criminal procedures and we remain with one thought in mind: the passing of responsibility in the past years in TVR – is not our fault, the former ones have stollen.
