BBC Worldwide announced yesterday that it has signed a pan-regional deal with Central European Media Enterprises (CME), which will see Dancing with the Stars available across five territories in Central Europe, as part of the group’s portfolio of commercial broadcasters.
Included as part of the deal is Pro TV in Romania and POP TV in Slovenia where the series has already proved to be popular. Both channels launched the format last month (March 2017) and achieved a market share of 28.6% and 51% respectively in their timeslots. The series has also been renewed on bTV in Bulgaria and Markiza in Slovakia whilst the format in Croatia will have a new home on Nova TV Croatia. Salim Mukaddam, General Manager and Vice President, CEE, BBC Worldwide said, “We’re delighted to be partnering with CME Group to bring Dancing with the Stars to new audiences around Central Europe. This deal cements our already strong relationship with CME Group as our premier partner for Entertainment formats in the region. We’ve already seen with the success of the show in Romania and Slovenia, BBC Worldwide’s formats, programming and channels really do thrive in this part of the world and we look forward to continuing to expand our partnership with CME Group.” Tubi Neustadt, Content Production Director from CME Group said, “Dancing with the Stars is the perfect program for us and our broadcasters across the region. It has all the qualities that we look for in a format; pure entertainment and star quality, not to mention the dancing, the costumes and the glamour. Partnering with BBC Worldwide in this way is a really exciting opportunity for us.” Dancing with the Stars is one of BBC Worldwide’s most commercially successful formats of all time, and has been licensed to more than 50 countries globally.
