20 companies interested in KRRiT’s project for peoplemeters research
Witold Kołodziejski, chairman of Poland’s National Broadcasting Council KRRiT, announced in an interview for Wirtualnemedia.pl that their new project for peoplemeters research has attracted the attention of 20 companies. KRRiT wants the panel of the new research to include over 10,000 families and its results to be provided for free.
“The project for a new audience survey, covering television and radio audience (and also including the Internet) will be done with public money, so everyone will profit from it, we will make it available for free,” says Kołodziejski. Talking about the project, he commented: “We undertake a difficult, perhaps even visionary task: to create peoplemeters research in the current technical and organizational conditions. The research, which has been conducted for many years on the Polish market, is outdated. We want to create new, qualitative research based on various data sources. Currently, media consumption is not only carried out by television. Modern research does not see this revolution. Researchers do, but not the research itself. It's about creating one-source research, but also collecting data from all devices. In short, there are millions of devices on the market and each sends some feedback. The idea is to encourage everyone to cooperate and say: sum up what we have - of course, anonymously. The Council has such a position in the political system of Poland, has a statutory duty to take care of it. The point is to guarantee the anonymity of this data, already at the basic level. We are able to ensure their safe collection and in the other direction: transfer of results to operators, research labs and other interested parties. This is how I imagine the role of the state as an organizer. You compete with each other, so let's do it within the framework of the state structure. Classic measuring panels are needed for this. We are in the phase of technical dialogue, we collect information from the market. Currently, Nielsen is the only company that conducts TV viewing in Poland. Its research is criticized by TVP. We do not do this project against Nielsen. I had several meetings with Nielsen. First of all, I invited Nielsen to participate in our project. The reaction, however, will always be distrustful and not very friendly on the part of a company that has a monopoly on the market. Any attempt to introduce competition is a threat.” RELATED
