HBO Europe greenlights third season of hit Romanian series Umbre/Shadows
HBO Europe has confirmed a third season of Romanian crime drama Umbre/Shadows, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Bogdan Mirică. Production will begin this fall in Bucharest, with additional filming on location in Spain.
Umbre/Shadows follows unassuming crime gangster Relu who juggles family and mob duties as his two lives become increasingly entwined. The end of season two foretold a point of no return for Relu (Șerban Pavlu), as unpredictable police investigator Emilian (Laurențiu Bănescu) determined to put crime boss 'The Captain' and his people behind bars for good. Relu's estranged wife Gina (Maria Obretin) is struggling, particularly to control their teenage son Chuckie (Dan Hurduc). Meanwhile daughter Magda (Mădălina Craiu) decides to work on her marriage with Teddy (Gabriel Huian), The Captain's son, in an attempt to put the traumatic events of the past behind her. As with the first two series, the third season of Umbre/Shadows is written entirely by director and screenwriter Bogdan Mirică. Mirică, whose debut feature Caini/Dogs won the Fipresci Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes Film Festival 2016, will also direct all six episodes. Mirică will work once again with Andrei Butică, director of photography for feature films including Călin Peter Netzer's Child’s Pose, Radu Jude's Everybody in Our Family, and Mirică's Dogs. Executive Producer for HBO Europe is Steve Matthews. Alina David is the producer for HBO Romania. HBO Europe continues its successful collaboration with Bucharest-based production company Multi Media Est and producers Dragoş Vîlcu and Valentin Antofi. Umbre/Shadows will premiere day-and-date across all seventeen HBO Europe territories. The first two seasons of Umbre/Shadows are available across HBO Europe territories. The series is based on Small Time Gangster, a format created by Boilermaker Burberry and licensed by DRG Formats. RELATED
