HBO Europe join documentary film Acasa, My Home as co-producers
 27 Jan 2020
Acasă, My Home, the debut film from director Radu Ciorniciuc, will have its world premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Documentary Competition. The film will premiere in selected European territories including Romania on HBO Go in 2021.

Acasă, My Home tells the story of a family who lived for over 20 years in the wilderness of the Văcărești Delta, Bucharest, until the location was declared a protected area and named The Văcărești National Park - the first urban natural park in Romania. For four years, director Radu Ciorniciuc followed the Enaches difficult journey: from a life of completely in harmony with nature, to the challenging lifestyle in the great urban jungle of the capital.

“Acasă, My Home is a film that not only reflects the life of a family, but also a condensed evolution of humanity - from nature’s bosom to the middle of civilization, from wilderness and freedom to an evolved society, with its rules, clichés, pressures and expectations,” said the producer of the film, Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan.

“We are always very keen to collaborate with promising young directors, and Radu Ciorniciuc has proven his high capacity for visual storytelling and creating closeness with his protagonists. This is a balanced and emotional documentary story, and we are proud to be co-producers of this beautiful film,” added Hanka Kastelicova, Executive Producer, HBO Europe.

The team behind the film also developed a social project with the help of countless specialists and humanitarian organizations. The 11 family members were living isolated from society: with no IDs, no education or healthcare access. Now, all of the nine Enache children have IDs, go to school, are regularly seen by doctors, and the adults have stable employment.

The documentary is directed by Radu Ciorniciuc and produced by Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan through the Manifest Film production company, co-produced by HBO Europe, Corso Film (Germany) and Kino Company (Finland), with the support of the Romanian Film Center. Acasă, My Home is internationally represented by distributor Autlook Filmsales. The Producer for HBO Romania is Alina David and the Executive Producer for HBO Europe is Hanka Kastelicova.

Radu Ciorniciuc is a reporter and film director. He is one of the co-founders of The House for Journalists, and has created features and stories for the Guardian, Al-Jazeera and Channel 4 News. He has received awards at the Superscrieri Awards (The Superscriere of 2014), from the Royal Television Society UK (2014), Amnesty International UK (2014) and won the Harold Wincott Award for Business Economic and Financial Journalism (2016).
