Viasat buys BBC Studios series
Viasat and BBC Studios announced a new deal, in which the studio’s series will appear on the thematic channels of Viasat in Russia, the company’s press service said. As part of the exclusive two-year partnership, Viasat will show the crime thriller We Hunt Together and the new season of the Unforgotten, as well as two more new exclusive territorial premieres, which Viasat will announce later in 2020.
It is clarified that the TV channels of Viasat and the online movie theater ViP Play will receive about 35 hours of premiere and 60 hours of library content from BBC Studios in 2020. In 2021, the company will acquire four more new series. Regarding the library content, Viasat is reported to gain access to popular TV shows, including projects such as McMafia, War & Peace, Brexit: The Uncivil War with Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role, and others. The collaboration with BBC began last year. According to the agreements reached then, channel ViP Serial showed popular British series Good Omens in early June 2020 for the first time on Russian television. In addition, this spring, ViP Serial viewers were able to watch Richard Gere's first major television work in the last 30 years - the MotherFatherSon series. Earlier, Viasat also received the rights to display the popular Sherlock series (Hartswood films) with Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. RELATED
