A Question of Sport kicks off in Slovakia
BBC Studios has announced a format license deal for A Question of Sport in Slovakia. The world’s longest running sports quiz format will be adapted by B Production and filming for the 10-part series is underway. The series will air on public channel RTVS Jednotka in October 2020.
A Question of Sport was originally broadcast on BBC One in the UK in 1970 and has filmed over 50 series to date. The sports quiz sees two teams of sporting celebrities compete against each other in a number of entertaining rounds. The local adaptation will be hosted by Marcel Forgáč well known to Slovak audiences for his many television projects and popular radio show and will have former IIHF World Champion ice hockey goaltender Ján Lašák and eight-time Slovak basketball player of the year, Radoslav Rančík, as resident captains. The pair will lead the teams to combine all of their sporting knowledge to successfully answer a series of questions. Rounds include the picture board, the Mystery guest where the panelists have to identify a sports personality from a film, and ‘home or away’. Andre Renaud, SVP Global Format sales for BBC Studios said: “Quiz show formats continue to appeal to viewers around the world and I’m so glad that A Question of Sport will be getting a whole new set of fans in Slovakia this year. A Question of Sport has that great blend of entertainment, celebrity and sport, with a healthy dose of rivalry and competition, too, and I’m looking forward to following the game on RTVS Jednotka very soon.” Anton Šulík, Director of program at RTVS said: “We are very happy that we can introduce this popular TV show to Slovak audience. I believe that it will bring a lot of fun to TV screens and will find its viewers not only among sport fans.” The deal with Jednotka was brokered on behalf of BBC Studios by Magdalena Garbacz, Format Manager.
