Belarusian media protest against journalists' arrests
The Belarusian media refused to use the photos on their resources in protest against the arrest of photojournalists Alexander Vasyukovich and Vladimir Gridin. They were found guilty of participating in an unauthorized mass event and arrested for 11 days. The journalists were detained on September 13 when they entered a cafe to send photos to the editorial office.
TUT.by has placed a camera icon behind bars instead of photos on the website. The portals Onliner, Vot-tak.tv and the site Radio Svaboda have a plug with the words “there could be a photo here” and a short text about the arrest of photographers. The editorial team of TUT.BY stated: “We are in solidarity with our colleagues. We are outraged by the actions of the security forces and the unfair decisions of the courts. We demand an end to pressure on journalists. We will fight for our rights. And we will continue to do our job.” Since the beginning of May, 12 journalists of TUT.by have been detained a total of 19 times, the newspaper notes. Since the beginning of the election campaign, according to the BAJ, journalists in Belarus have been detained more than 200 times, the portal indicates. RELATED
