Carol’s Second Act adapted in Ukraine
 10 Mar 2021
TV channel Ukraine (Ukraina) starts production of a comedy TV show Liusya The Intern based on the American format of the popular sitcom Carol’s Second Act, distributed by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group. The forty-episode series is to be produced by Tele Pro.

After thirty years of married life Liusya Zhuk’s husband leaves her for a young mistress, and she stays all alone. To avoid depression Lisuya decides to change her life and make her old dream come true. She used to dream to be a doctor but couldn’t do her internship. Despite her age, the fifty-year-old Liusya is going to return to medicine. Finally, she ends among young specialists who, together with her, are doing their internship at the city clinic.

Liusya’s story, her personal transformation and drastic changes in her life serve to prove that it’s never too late to achieve your goals. At any age anyone can master a new profession, change their surrounding and start doing what they lacked time for.

“Liusya Zhuk deliberately leaves her comfort bubble and regularly gets into hilarious situations. However, Liusya’s strength and uniqueness are in the fact that she never gives up and always fights to the end,” says Dariya Deynichenko, Creative Producer of the project. “We’re sure our viewers will love Liusya and they’ll gladly watch her adventures, her formation and, of course, the events in her personal life.”

According to the creative producer, sitcom is a new genre for TV channel Ukraina. However, the team have long been planning to realize this plan and were searching for the appropriate material. The series is based on the American sitcom Carol’s Second Act, distributed by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.

“We’d like to show that age is nothing if you have a goal in life. It’s never too late to start something new,” notes Deynichenko. “We’re 100% sure of that and we’d like to inspire our viewers to not be afraid to make their dreams come true!”

The show is directed by Maksym Lytvynov and Vira Yakovenko. Production designers: Natalia Khodosevych and Vasyl Dymytrov. Director of photography: Yuri Smetanin. Project manager and head writer: Olena Pshenychna. Music by Roman Surzha. Executive producer: Viacheslav Bratukh. Creative producer: Daria Deynichenko. General producers: Viktoria Korogod and Olena Kanishevska.

The U.S. format, ‘Carol’s Second Act,’ was produced by CBS Studios. Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, Patricia Heaton, Adam Griffin, David Hunt, Rebecca Stay, Aaron Kaplan, Dana Honor, Pamela Fryman, and Suzy Mamann Greenberg served as executive producers.

The channels is also working on a new entertainment format called Wonder Hunters. “When have you been really surprised lately? What new, incredibly beautiful did you learn today? And if I tell you that you already know why ships and planes disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle? Or that the churches of Europe decided to apologize for burning witches in the Middle Ages? Or, for example, is there a boy in the world who flies a real plane at the age of 7? Our hosts and their team hunt for many incredible, amazing stories, so that every morning the viewer not only learns about new wonders of the universe and the planet, but also inspired by creative, scientific and even culinary achievements of mankind, " says project manager Iryna Sargan.
The names of the hosts of the show "Wonder Hunters" will be known very soon. Their "hunt" will be assisted by bloggers, travelers, locals from different countries and eyewitnesses of various events.
