Belsat ready to broadcast Euro 2020 for Belarus
Belsat has announced its technical and organizational readiness to broadcast sports events and other events important for viewers in Belarus, in case the Belarusian state television is deprived of the right to broadcast them.
“We are ready to take any broadcasts of sports events that they want to give us. We can broadcast them through all available platforms: satellite TV, YouTube, on the page and on our social networks,” reads the appeal. The European Parliament has adopted a resolution, which deals with the transfer of broadcasting rights of the European Championship to Belsat, instead of the Belarusian state television. On June 10, the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution calling for the EU to impose new individual and sectoral sanctions against Belarus. The vote was broadcast by the EP website. "The EU sanctions list must be expanded. The resolution urges the Council to sanction the Belarusian individuals and entities involved in the forced landing and the abductions as soon as possible," the document says. The resolution also states that Belarus should be suspended from international sports bodies and international events, including European and world championships and the Olympic Games in Tokyo. MEPs further urge the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to remove broadcasting rights for the upcoming EURO 2020 football tournament from Belarusian state television TVR and assign them to the independent Belsat TV free of charge.
