TVN film adaptations enjoy success abroad
The media company TVN, belonging to the Discovery Group, reports that its formats were appreciated by the international audience, gaining fans not only in Poland but also abroad. Already in the first weeks after their premieres, the Lithuanian adaptation of Taxing Love (Polish: Podatek od Miłości) and the Czech version of Letters to Santa (Polish: Listy do M) triumphed in the box office, leaving other cinema titles behind.
Lithuanian cinema goers liked the 2018 Polish romantic comedy Taxing Love to such an extent that the decision of producing a Lithuanian remake was made. The film Vyras už Pinigus hit theaters on December 31 last year and scored better opening results than big American productions such as The Matrix Resurrections. Only 2 weeks after its release, the Lithuanian adaptation of Taxing Love became the best Lithuanian film to debut in all of 2021. After 3 weeks, the movie is still No. 1 at the local box office with 64,968 viewers (Jan 14-16). What's more, the title was praised not only by the audience but also by film critics. The Czech version of the beloved Letters to Santa, occupied the 1st place in the Czech box office for two weeks. Přání Ježíškovi, which premiered on November 11, 2021, reached over 170.000 viewers. Thus, the Czech adaptation of Letters to Santa had better viewing results than such world blockbusters as House of Gucci, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings or The Matrix Resurrections.
