Russia shuts down TV Dozhd and Echo of Moscow
According to the decision of the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia, the sites of the TV Dozhd cand the Echo of Moscow radio station are no longer be available in the country. The radio site is also threatened to be blocked.
According to the editor-in-chief of Echo of Moscow, Alexey Venediktov, the Prosecutor General's Office pointed to materials calling for extremism and allegedly false information about the actions of the Russian military in Ukraine. Venediktov stated that the editorial board strongly disagrees with the Prosecutor General's Office's proposal and points out that the Prosecutor General's Office's claims "are not supported by any examples, evidence, are unsubstantiated and offensive to Russian journalists and citizens." According to Venediktov, the editorial office will appeal the ban in court. The Dozhd TV channel reports that it has not received a list of materials from the Prosecutor General's Office that allegedly violate Russian laws. Now the channel continues to broadcast on YouTube.
