Ukrainian war film Cherkasy will air in the Czech Republic
On March 7, the State Agency of Ukraine for Cinematography announced that the rights of the film Cherkasy have been sold to the Czech Republic. It was decided to transfer the funds from this contract to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"The Cherkasy film team has sold the rights to telecast the film to the Czech Republic. According to the joint decision of the film producer, Derzhkino and the international distributor Film.UA Group, the entire contract amount will be transferred to support the defenders of Ukraine. And our neighbors will be able to see where this bloody war of aggression began in 2014," the State Cinema said, urging the international media to buy the rights to Ukrainian cinema, thus supporting the Ukrainian army. According to the plot of the film, the Cherkasy minesweeper, along with other Ukrainian ships, is blocked in the bay of Lake Donuzlav - the way to the sea is blocked by sunken ships of the Russian fleet. It seems impossible to survive in this trap, so Ukrainian ships are beginning to surrender to the Russian aggressor. And only the Cherkasy minesweeper continued to resist the occupiers for three weeks and became the only one of the nine ships that did not lower the state flag of Ukraine. Yuriy Fedash, the real commander of the minesweeper, consulted in the making of the film, and the cast included sailors who defended the ship, among them - the helmsman of the Cherkasy minesweeper Volodymyr Boyko and sailor Mykhailo Voskoboynik. The main roles in the film were played by: Yevhen Lamakh, Roman Semisal, Dmytro Sova, Oleh Shcherbyna and others. The film is a co-production of Ukraine and Poland. The Cherkasy film project became one of the winners of the 9th State Cinema Competition. More than 40% of the funds (the budget is about 40 million UAH) was provided by the state. Filming began in April 2017 and took place in Ochakovo, Odessa and a small village in the Chernihiv region. On October 14, 2020, the TV premiere of the film took place in Ukraine on the TV channel 1+1. RELATED
