Hungarian journalists urge EU to ban RTR Planeta
The National Association of Hungarian Journalists (MÚOSZ) has reacted to the fact that the Russian propaganda channel RTR Planeta is still not banned in Hungary and in the European Union. MÚOSZ hopes that the European Union will soon remedy this mistake and hopes that cable operators will start withdrawing it on a voluntary basis from their offerings in order to reduce the spread of incitement to war.
Last week, Martin Tompos, a member of political party Momentum, called on Telekom and Vodafone to remove the Russian channel, as it also features programs by one of the Russian president's biggest propagandists - Solovyov. Vodafone first responded, saying that the television in question was not on the EU's list of suspended channels, but an EU resolution was requested. Telekom stated that they are monitoring the changing legal environment and that they are negotiating with the company on the subject. For the time being, this channel is available from both service providers. On Wednesday, the National Association of Hungarian Journalists (MÚOSZ) has urged the EU to ban the channel in the whole European Union: “Because it is blood-curdling that in Hungary and probably elsewhere in Europe, the news channel (actually a pseudo-news channel) is still available on the offer of the major cable operators, on which they can still talk about Russia's attack on Ukraine in Russian as a special military operation. The propaganda channel slavishly follows Putin's narrative, insensitive to acts of war against humanity." RELATED
