Ukraine calls for EU sanctions against Russian propaganda channels
The National Broadcasting Council of Ukraine has appealed to the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine for assistance in including Russian TV channels in the fifth EU sanctions list.
The media regulator emphasizes that most of the companies that openly spread Kremlin propaganda have been under Ukrainian sanctions since 2018, so their inclusion in the EU sanctions lists is quite possible and appropriate. Following European sanctions, more than 70 million Russian-speaking Europeans, who are now a potential audience for Russian propaganda television, will be deprived of the colossal information pressure that has persisted for decades and continues to this day. If the appeal of the National Council is heeded, irreversible changes will take place, namely: European satellite operators, which still provide the Russian propaganda machine with the capacity to broadcast unencrypted TV channels, will be forced to suspend their commercial commitments and turn off broadcasting, European software providers will also lose the opportunity to relay propaganda signals on their networks, global Internet service providers such as Google, Apple, and Netflix will block Russian propaganda media from broadcasting on their own resources, at least for Europe.
