Resolution on the value of freedom of speech during martial law adopted
The Verkhovna Rada adopted Resolution 7266 on the Statement of the Ukrainian Parliament on the Value of Freedom of Speech, Guarantees of the Activity of Journalists and the Mass Media during Martial Law. A total of 348 MPs voted in favor of the document. Earlier, the draft resolution was supported by the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy.
According to the Committee's opinion, the adoption of this bill will help protect Ukraine in the information sphere. In particular, by supporting the guarantees of freedom of speech and activities of journalists and the media during martial law, Media Detector reports. According to the Institute of Mass Media, in March Russia committed 155 crimes against the media and journalists in Ukraine. These crimes include murder, shelling and wounding of journalists, threats, harassment, abduction of journalists, shelling and seizure of TV towers, hacking attacks on Ukrainian media sites, shelling of media offices, disabling Ukrainian broadcasting, blocking access to Ukrainian media sites in Russia and the occupied Crimea.
