Starlink will open a representative office in Ukraine
The Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov announced that Starlink has started work on opening a representative office in Ukraine.
"And this technology will become even more accessible to Ukrainians. After all, today we received another positive news - Starlink has started work on opening a representative office in Ukraine. For my part, I instructed the relevant authorities to ensure that the necessary procedures for certification, measurement and allocation of frequencies take place as soon as possible," Fedorov said. He also said that today more than 10.000 stations help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, support the work of critical energy and telecommunications facilities, health care facilities, sowing campaign and more. On February 27, SpaceX founder Elon Musk agreed to provide Ukraine with access to satellite Internet and activated the Starlink service in Ukraine, and on February 28, Starlink global satellite terminals were brought to Ukraine. Musk also adapted Starlink satellite Internet stations to Ukrainian needs: software to reduce energy consumption has been updated and mobile roaming has been enabled. Elon Musk also warned that Starlink stations could become targets for Russian troops. On April 19, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection announced that mass use of the Starlink satellite Internet had been temporarily restricted in Ukraine. They explained that the widespread use of Starlink could partially affect the operation of radio relay equipment of the Ukrainian military, so consumers, in addition to critical infrastructure, restricted access to the network from SpaceX. Restrictions for consumers should be lifted in the near future, after calculations and a series of studies that should confirm the safety of use of terminals and assess their compatibility with existing radio equipment.
