Docudays UA announces Docu/Ukraine winner
Eva Jishiashvili's debut full-length film Play won the Docu/Ukraine competition of the 19th Docudays UA International Film Festival.
This decision was made by an international jury which included Daniel Abma (Netherlands), Devika Girish (USA) and Stanislav Bytyutky (Ukraine). "Play is an incredibly relevant film, especially in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In addition, Eva Jishiashvili's film is a rare and long-lasting work that speaks to the moment and at the same time goes beyond it. - it is said in the speech of the jury. “This film, shot through the prism of a beautiful view of the landscapes of the Ukrainian mountains, radiates a kindness that is like a breath of fresh air in gloomy times. Play is as gentle as it is relevant. It marks the discovery of a great new talent." Play is a story about people who saved more than they lost under the pressure of our ambiguous present, which confused all earthly and heavenly laws. Their strength and weakness are in love: for their land, for their neighbor. They disagree and are submissive at the same time, like mountains. They rebel against the injustice of life and courageously accept the blows of fate. For the human eye, the Malkovych family is lost in the beautiful and harsh nature, but in fact they are where harmony and love have been passed down from generation to generation since the beginning of time.
