EC reminds Ukraine of the need to adopt a new media law
The European Commission has made a number of demands to Ukraine on the path to EU membership, including the adoption of a law on media, European Pravda reports.
"Overcome the influence of selfish interests by adopting a law on media, which aligns Ukrainian legislation with the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive and empowers an independent media regulator," the EC said. The European Commission will monitor Ukraine's progress in implementing this and other steps and report on them, together with a detailed assessment of the country by the end of 2022. The draft media from 2019 is under consideration in the parliament and is awaiting the first reading. On July 14, 2020, the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy considered the draft and recommended that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopt it as a basis in the first reading and take into account the proposals submitted by the Committee.
