Starlink will launch in Georgia next year
Georgians will be able to start using Starlink high-speed Internet from the American company SpaceX in 2023, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili announced after a meeting with SpaceX Regional Director for Market Access Ben Williams, Rustavi 2 reports.
“Due to our difficult geography, not all areas have communication and high-quality Internet today, but Starlink will start operating in 2023, the authorization has already been granted,” the minister said. According to him, SpaceX expressed its readiness to launch the Internet in Georgia after meeting with Deputy Economy Minister Irakli Nadareishvili and Chairman of the Innovation and Technology Agency Avtandil Kasradze in Los Angeles last year. At the first stage, Starlink Internet will be available to the technoparks of the Innovation and Technology Agency throughout Georgia. Starlink is a global satellite system that distributes high-speed broadband satellite Internet. SpaceX began developing the project in 2015 and launched the first group of 60 prototype satellites in May 2019. A year later, the company began providing commercial Internet access in the northern United States and Canada. With the start of the Russian military operation, the Ukrainian authorities also received equipment for accessing the Starlink Internet, including the use of special missions of Ukrainian intelligence officers, as well as military and civil administrations.
