Starlight Media’s Really? wins MipJunior Kids Project Pitch
Starlight Media’s black comedy series Really? is the winner of the MipJunior Kids Project Pitch 2022. Yevhen Tunik presented the project on Sunday in Cannes alongside three other pitches to a panel of judges.
The 6×50’ series focuses on a young girl from a small town in the eastern Ukraine whose wish it is to end her life on February 24, the day of her 16th birthday.However, when the Russian invasion disrupts her dramatic plan, she breaks the fourth wall and asks the viewer: “Really?” Along with her mother and brother, the young girl flees Ukraine to live elsewhere in Europe and begins to see life in a new way. The judges panel included Claire Heinrich, deputy director and head of acquisitions, children’s and youth, France Télévisions; Sarah Muller, head of commissioning and acquisitions, BBC; Brandon Relph, CEO, Nite; and Amy Takahara, director, kids and family acquisitions and co-commissions, Netflix. The other three projects presented were school-set detective series Benjamin Ojo: Junior High Private Eye (Little Engine Moving Pictures, Canada), animated series The Boy Who Cried MiBot (Blisstopia Productions, UK) and Starseekers (also from Little Engine Moving Pictures).
