Ukraine bets on Starlink for communication
Ukraine has concluded an agreement with Elon Musk's company SpaceX and in the coming months will receive more than 10.000 Starlink antennas to stabilize communication in case of critical situations, the Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, told Bloomberg.
"Elon Musk assured us that he will continue to support Ukraine. When we had power outages, I texted him that day and he responded instantly and has already taken some steps. He understands the situation," the minister said. According to Fedorov, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has received almost 22.000 Starlink antennas. All financial issues related to them are currently resolved, but Ukraine will need to find additional funding in the spring. There is no alternative to satellite communication, the minister added. The Verkhovna Rada abolished duty and VAT on generators and Starlink. On November 30, Starlink announced a price increase for its services for Ukrainians. From December 29, the cost of satellite Internet for private individuals will not be $60, but $75 per month. The cost of the Starlink terminal and antenna will increase from $500 to $700. RELATED
