European pubcasters show solidarity with Ukraine
On the anniversary of the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, European media, members of the European Broadcasting Union, as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, prepared a number of thematic programs, reports and charity events on their platforms.
European Broadcasting Union As part of the Keep Media Good campaign, as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, the EBU has created a thematic video for the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In it, journalists from all over the world report on the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. RTVE Spain On February 20, the Spanish broadcaster presented a series of reports by journalist Ebbabi Hameidi with Ukrainians, whom she first met a year ago. Seredїї heroiv — grandmother z Buchi; violinist of the Odesa Opera; a woman from the Mykolaiv morgue; doctor from Slovianska; the youth of Ivano-Frankivsk. RTVE also launched a new format of reports about extraordinary people on YouTube. On February 24, TVE (Televisión Española) broadcast two major news episodes from Kyiv and Poland's Peremysl. At the same time, on the Spanish radio RNE (Radio Nacional de España) this day, a special program about the Russian-Ukrainian war with live coverage of Donbass and Kherson was planned. The day before, RNE (Radio Nacional de España) also started retransmission of Ukrainian Radio Public Broadcasting for Ukrainian immigrants in Madrid and Barcelona. Yogo can be tuned for free and without an internet connection using DAB radios. LRT Lithuania LRT, together with the Lithuanian public organization, which promotes fundraising activities for the benefit of Ukraine, on January 30 launched the largest campaign in support of Ukraine — Let's Radar. This is a charitable fundraiser for air surveillance radars for the protection of the Ukrainian sky and critical infrastructure from enemy attacks. The campaign lasted four weeks and ended with a special broadcast on February 24 and a charity concert in the evening. A total of 14 million euros were collected. Also, all LRT platforms will prepare content on topics related to the war, including showing the documentary film Bucha 22 by Suspilne. ORF Austria During February, ORF1, ORF2 and ORF3 showed a number of their own documentaries about the full-scale Russian attack on Ukraine and Ukraine's struggle for independence. On February 24, they airedextended episodes of news about the anniversary of the war. BNT Bulgaria On the BNT1 channel, on February 24, the annual documentary film about Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, as well as reports from Ukraine on the air of political TV programs and talkshows, were scheduled. HRT Croatia On February 24, HRT aired four foreign documentaries about Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. On February 25, on the main square of Zagreb, organized by the Ukrainian community, with the participation of the Ambassador of Ukraine and other representatives of the Croatian government, the HRT choir performed the national anthems of Croatia and Ukraine, the anthem of Europe and the prayer for Ukraine. Cesky Rozhlas — Czech public radio On February 21, there was a concert of the Prague Philharmonic Choir with a live broadcast on Czech Radio Vltava, SR D-dur and Radio Romania. On February 24, Czech Radio Cesky Rozhlas broadcast radio novels performed by Czech and Ukrainian artists. Also present a 4-episode podcast about the first year of the war in Ukraine through the eyes of a war correspondent. On the same day, a special broadcast about Ukraine will take place on public radio Czechia and a special episode Jak to vidí (Yak voni tse bachat) on radio Dvojka. Among the topics: stories of Ukrainian immigrants, particularly stories of cooks who opened their own bistro in the center of Prague with Ukrainian dishes. France TV France 2 held a special Ukrainian evening with live news from Ukraine, as well as an evening of documentaries and programs with reports from Kyiv, Irpin, Bucha and Odesa, which analyzed diplomatic consequences, war crimes, military training of Ukrainians and the life of Ukrainian immigrants. GPB Georgia On February 24, films related to the Russian-Ukrainian war were shown on television in Georgia, including the documentary film Bucha 22 and BBC's Occupied. Rai Italy On the anniversary of the start of a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, Rai broadcast and published a selection of videos with all the correspondents who worked in Ukraine since the start of the war under the slogan "we will never stop talking". Rainews also broadcasts the main episodes of news from Kyiv and Rome. LTV Latvia As a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, the Latvian television and radio companies simultaneously broadcast the Ukrainian anthem on February 24 at 12.00. Latvian television showed a special news service program with direct coverage from Ukraine, a live charity concert "Dedication to Ukraine" and a concert from Ukraine "Kiyivski soloists", as well as documentaries dedicated to the children of war in Ukraine and women fighting against the Russian aggressor. RTCG Montenegro On February 24, in Montenegro, RTCG aired a thematic program in primetime. MRT North Macedonia The public broadcaster dedicated the broadcast on February 24 to Ukraine: the global and internal consequences of the war, the economic impact of Europe and the importance of mass media during the war. TVP Poland On Sunday, February 19, TVP1 channel premiered Bucha 22. On February 22, TVP1 aired a series of programs about events around Kyiv, Bucha, Irpin and Hostomel during the first months of the war. From February 24 to February 26, TVP Dokument broadcast a series of documentary films. TVR Romania The Romanian pubcaster also aired several documentaries related to the war in Ukraine. RTS Serbia RTS aired a special program on the occasion of the anniversary of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. RTVS Slovakia During February, the Slovak public broadcaster showed a number of documentaries, including stories of Ukrainians who stayed at home despite the threat of war. On February 24, the charity program "Slovensko pre Ukrajinu (Slovaččina для України)" was aired on Jednotka (STV1) and on February 28, the host of the talk show Evening with Raven will discuss the year of the war in Ukraine with invited guests. On this day, the newsroom is preparing for about 20 years the special broadcast "Rik po tomu", which will tell about the turning points of the war, the world's reaction to the beginning of a full-scale invasion.
