National Council asks court to fine two channels
The National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting will appeal to the court to fine TV channels Nash (LLC "Nash 365") and Z ZIK (LLC "TRC New Communications"). This decision was made on March 9 at a National Council meeting.
The regulator noted that in 2021, it has fined companies for calling for an aggressive war or promoting it and/or for inciting nation, race or religion-based enmity and hatred. The licensees had to pay fines to the state within a month since the introduction of the sanctions. In particular, Nash had to pay a fine of UAH 119,544.75, and Z ZIK had to pay UAH 341,067.50. The channels appealed against the National Council's decision. However, a District Administrative Court of Kyiv upheld the decisions of the National Council. The relevant court decisions entered into force on January 2 and 6, 2023. However, the companies have not yet provided documentary evidence of the fines being paid. Thus, the National Council will file a lawsuit to enforce the payment. In addition, the broadcasters will be charged a penalty for each day of delay. As IMI reported, on February 11, 2022, the National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions on Nash TV. On December 28, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed into effect the National Security Council's decision to impose sanctions on the companies that own the TV channels Pershyi Nezalennyi and UkrLive. Media Holding Novyny LLC, Time Media LLC, and Teleprostir LLC have been sanctioned. RELATED
