Netflix keeps grants and scholarships for Ukrainian filmmakers
 31 Mar 2023
The Ukrainian Film Academy and the streaming platform Netflix will continue the program of assistance to Ukrainian film and television industry professionals, the press service of the Ukrainian Film Academy reported.

This year's program includes: 100 scholarships for professionals of all levels; post-production grants in the amount of 10,000 dollars for each project for Ukrainian feature films and documentaries; a series of online master classes for producers and line producers, created by EAVE international experts and adapted to the Ukrainian audiovisual industry; a two-day workshop on digital post-production by the New York Film Academy.

In addition, artists who received a script development grant last year will receive support in the form of group sessions discussing key industry trends, as well as individual sessions from EAVE on project development and development.

The program is supported by House of Europe, a program funded by the European Union.

This year, two new partners will also be involved in the program — the organization European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE) and the New York Film Academy. They will provide access to education for Ukrainians.

The Ukrainian Film Academy and House of Europe announced the start of cooperation with Netflix in July 2022. At that time, two initiatives were launched to help Ukrainian creators who suffered or were forced to move due to the war. The programs included 48 screenwriting grants of $15.000 each, 100 scholarships of €1000 each, and training from Netflix for entry-level and mid-level professionals.

However, after the results of the competition were announced, it turned out that among the 48 winners were the projects of six of the nine members of the jury who became winners. At the same time, there was not a single representative from Netflix in the jury. However, representatives of the Ukrainian Film Academy said in a comment to Detector Media that they consider the terms of the competition to be transparent.
