Acclaimed Ukrainian film Pamfir to launch on Netflix
The team of Ukrainian drama Pamfir, directed by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk, announced the release of the film on Netflix, starting from June 22
"Save the date to see Malanka and experience the authentic traditions of western Ukraine," they wrote on social media. The plot of Pamfir is about a decent family man, Pamfir, who returns home after several years working abroad. After controversial deeds in the past, the main character has to turn to crime again because of his son’s wrongdoing. The events take place during the Malanka carnival and are based on the biblical story about Abraham. Filming took place in the Carpathians and Bukovyna in autumn 2020, and the main roles were played by Oleksandr Yatsentyuk, Solomiia Kyrylova, Oleksandr Yarema and Rymma Zyubina. The film’s script, which was written by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk, was developed at the Cannes International Film Festival Cinéfondation Residence. The film premiered at Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival where it received positive reviews from film critics. In Ukraine, the film was released on March 23 and grossed more than 11 million UAH after the fifth weekend. Two more Ukrainian films will be released on Netflix in June: Antonio Lukich’s Luxembourg, Luxembourg will premiere on June 14, while Maryna Er Gorbach’s Klondike started streaming on June 7. RELATED
