Ukrainian activist, journalist, photoreporter, long-time member of the "Nasha Vira" editorial team, Freedom Legion soldier, Roman Chornomaz, was killed in a battle in the Bakhmut area on June 13, IMI reports.

This was announced by Andriy Kovaliov, press officer of the Kyiv territorial defense brigade No. 112.

He notes that Roman became a sniper and joined the battalion "Freedom" in the first days of the war. He fought in the ranks of the National Guard rapid response brigade "Frontier".

"Roman worked in Kyiv as a journalist and photoreporter for many years, working with many news agencies in the capital, we would often meet on set. He is a veteran Ukrainian activist, a Ukrainian language advocate, a participant in all pro-Ukrainian campaigns in the capital, a participant of the Language Maidan and the Revolution of Dignity. Roman has also advocated for our Autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church for years. He edited the legendary newspaper 'Nasha Vira', which was published by Yevheniy Sverstiuk," Kovaliov writes.

He also noted that Roman was born in Uman (Cherkasy oblast) in a family of Ukrainian patriots.

Roman's father, Bohdan Chornomaz, is a Ukrainian historian, a dissident and a prisoner of Soviet concentration camps, a writer and public figure, a member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union.

His mother, Tetyana Chornomaz, is an activist who headed the "Freedom" branch in Cherkasy for many years, and is now a volunteer who helps the army.
