Beta picks up ERT1 hit The Beach
Only days ahead of MIPCOM, Beta Film announced that it has picked up the international rights to the Greek drama series The Beach (24x1h). The distributor claims that the series is not only dominating primetime slots, but also streaming figures and daily conversations, topping the trending tab on “X”, formerly Twitter, every day since the start of the broadcast.
As CEETV reported earlier, The Beach by Foss Productions and public broadcaster ERT premiered in early September. The peak market share got up to 15%, more than doubling the daily ratings average of ERT1 and catapulting the channel into the top ranks nationwide. The gripping drama attracted an astonishing audience of almost 1 million viewers to its linear premiere, while racking up more than 3.6 million on demand views in the process an all-times high record for ERTFLIX, the official FVOD platform by the local commissioning broadcaster. Due to this groundbreaking success, next seasons of the drama have already been greenlit. Love and freedom infuse an idyllic commune on the shores of Crete in 1969, until a murder exposes the messy entanglements spurred on by the hippies. Yet even the straightlaced police officer assigned to investigate the crime finds he can’t resist the temptations of paradise. Stefanos Blatsos (Love after) directs the hit drama set at Matala Beach in Crete with scripts from George Chrysovitsanos and Kostas Gerampinis. The cast consists of Danai Michalaki (Wild Bees), starring as Hypatia, a London-based doctor coming back to her hometown, where she meets Harry, played by Dimitris Mothonaios (A Day in the Life of a Teddy Bear). The Beach is produced by Foss Productions in coproduction with ERT, Beta handles international sales. RELATED
