Gaumont and SLM shoot second block of In Her Car
The most anticipated Ukrainian war drama series in Europe, In Her Car, has successfully started the second block of production, Starlight Media informs.
The team of Starlight Media, that creates the TV series in co-production with Gaumont, the world’s oldest continuously running film studio, with the support of several European broadcasters (France TV, ZDF, SVT, Yle, RUV, NRK, SRF) and Beta Film as an international sales partner, completed the first set of shooting and is now working on the next episodes. The TV series In Her Car is a 10-episode war drama inspired by true events of the first weeks of russia's war against Ukraine. It tells the story of a Ukrainian woman who worked as a psychologist. In the days when millions of Ukrainians are forced to leave their homes, she remains in the country and becomes a transporter. Each episode is a journey and a passenger with a personal story. The team started preparations in December 2022. There were quite a lot of specifics that required additional planning and extra safety measures. The Starlight Media team dedicated significant time and effort to plan the shoot, and in March 2023 they began filming of the first five episodes in Kyiv and surroundings. They have since continued to work on the TV drama series in Ukraine up to the present day. The series’ second block now is in production stage. In the project's second block, the main character's storyline will be expanded, and the final series will be entirely dedicated to Lydia's personal story. Showrunner Eugen Tunick commented: "We have planned bright exterior scenes at roadblocks, firefights with the DRG, a murder, and an episode in a bomb shelter that shakes with explosions. There will be both dramatic flashbacks (for example, the scene of the evacuation of people from Luhansk in 2014) and emotional ones that bring us back to the past, reminding us of happy, peaceful times. At the same time, we try not to depart from the style set at the beginning of the season; we follow the structure, when each series has a main part, a flashback, and a logical conclusion". Anastasia Karpenko, awarded the Locarno Prize for her role in the drama How's Katya?, stars in the leading role. The Ukrainian series also stars international actors. There will be three French actors in the one of the episode, Adrien Rob, Karina Beuthe Orr and Antoine Herbez. It took almost two months to finish filming the first block, and currently the first five episodes are in post-production going through final touch-ups. The series’ international premiere and release is planned for February 2024. RELATED
