Ukrainian director and journalists killed in action
Director Kostyantyn Petryk was killed in action while preforming a combat mission on May 27, reports the press office of the Ukrainian State Film Agency (USFA).
The USFA writes that on the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion, Konstantin Petryk voluntarily enlisted in the National Guard, later becoming a platoon commander. Before the full-scale war, Kostyantyn Petryk worked in filmmaking as an assisting director. He was involved with the TV shows Voron and Vorobiov (2022), Trickster (2021), Angels (2020), Brothers by Blood 2 (2020), The Gardener (2019), Journey to the Soul's Core (2018), Conquest (2018), Other (2018). Kostyantyn Petryk's death was confirmed by his wife Anastasia Petryk: "Kostia died while performing a combat mission. This is an irreparable loss. It is an emptiness in the heart of everyone who knew him. In line forever. All details later. For now just remember him and all those who gave their lives for our Freedom," she wrote. Also, in other tragic news, journalist and paramedic Iryna Tsybukh (call sign Grenade Pin) was killed in action in Kharkiv oblast on May 29. This was announced by the Medical Volunteer Battalion "Hospitaliers". "This is an unspeakable pain and an incredible loss not only for our battalion, but for Ukraine as a whole. Grenade Pin used to say: 'The only freedom of choice in a country at war... the only kind of freedom in this context is the fight for freedom,'" the battalion wrote. "Hospitaliers" promise to announce the date for Iryna's wake later. Iryna Tsybukh was the regional broadcasting department manager at Suspilne, worked with Hromadske Radio, and was a paramedic at the medical battalion "Hospitaliers". In her December 2022 interview with IMI, she noted: "I would like to praise those journalists who didn't leave the field, keep working with their outlets, stay to tell stories for the Ukrainian audience as well, knowing it better than anyone, and to tell them 'thank you'. These colleagues have my great respect." Also, Anastasiia Volkova, a war correspondent for the Ukrainian broadcaster FREEDOM, was killed in Sloviansk, Donetsk Oblast, on May 30. She was 31. Anastasiia worked in the hottest spots of Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. She was very dedicated to her work and had no intention of moving to a safer place. She grew up in Luhansk and dreamed of being the first Ukrainian journalist to report from the liberated city. Anastasiia had been working as a war correspondent for Ukrainian state broadcasting channels since 2018. She was awarded the Order of Merit, third class, in June 2022. RELATED
