Kozalak Preschool premieres on TRT EBA
 27 Nov 2024
The new animated series Kozalak Preschool developed under the Increasing Quality and Access to Early Childhood Education (ECE) Project, has premiered on TRT EBA. Created and written by Evren Yiğit and produced by Mako Kids in collaboration with Melon, this 39-episode series (each episode 7 minutes long) is designed for children ages 3-6.

Kozalak Preschool combines early learning with themes of inclusivity, environmental responsibility, girls’ empowerment in science, and child-led initiative practices.

Set in a sustainable preschool environment, Kozalak Preschool incorporates eco-friendly practices such as recycling, composting, and gardening, inspiring young viewers to adopt sustainable habits. The series has been warmly received by children, educators, and families for its engaging approach to early learning and its commitment to empathy, environmental consciousness, and child empowerment.

Supported by UNICEF, the European Union, and the Turkish Ministry of National Education, the project aims to make quality early childhood education accessible and engaging. Through relatable characters and meaningful stories, Kozalak Preschool fosters social-emotional learning, cognitive development, and a sense of responsibility for the natural world.

At the International Early Childhood Education Congress and Project Closing Meeting in Istanbul, Evren Yiğit, Co-Founder and Chief Content Officer of Mako Kids, spoke about the series’ commitment to diversity, sustainability, and child-centered approaches: "Kozalak Preschool represents a vision for child-centered inclusive media. By including diverse abilities, sustainable practices, and opportunities for children to take the lead in learning, we are helping children learn to care for each other and the world.

The show also integrates child-led initiative practices, involving young voices throughout the creative process. Focus groups with children helped shape characters, settings, and storylines, making Kozalak Preschool a series that truly resonates with its audience. Episodes encourage children to explore, ask questions, and engage in discovery-driven learning, empowering them to take ownership of their learning experiences.

Additionally, the series highlights girls’ empowerment in science by showcasing female characters engaging in scientific discovery and problem-solving. This approach fosters curiosity and critical thinking, encouraging young girls to explore STEM fields confidently."

To ensure authentic representation, Parıltı Blind Kids Association was consulted in developing İrem, a visually impaired character who fosters understanding and empathy.

Yiğit explained: "We listened to the voices of children from Parıltı as we shaped İrem’s character. Their insights were invaluable, allowing us to portray a character that helps normalize diversity in abilities from a young age. Children see İrem as a capable friend with unique strengths, fostering an appreciation for diversity."
