ATM Grupa to adapt Remigiusz Mróz’s bestseller
 12 Jan 2026
ATM Grupa has signed an agreement with Remigiusz Mróz – the country’s most widely read contemporary author and one of the most frequently adapted writers of recent years – to develop a screen adaptation of his bestselling novel Hell Is Empty. The book opens the “Report” cycle, a series of thrillers set in the world of investigative journalism. The project is currently being developed as a six-episode crime thriller series.

Hell Is Empty follows a journalistic investigation into the high-profile disappearance of a young woman. Although the story is set in the present day, it gradually leads back to unresolved events from 2015. As new facts emerge, dark connections, hidden arrangements and long-buried secrets come to light, and the pursuit of truth quickly proves to be dangerously risky. It is a story about the media landscape, where information can become a weapon and truth comes at a very high price.

“Remigiusz Mróz is undeniably one of the strongest author brands on the Polish market today,” said Urszula Piasecka, Vice President of ATM Grupa. “We decided to reach for Hell Is Empty because it is an outstanding property with strong adaptation potential – emotionally intense and highly relevant, as it raises questions about the limits of media responsibility and whether truth still carries real value in the age of disinformation. I am very pleased that we will be working directly with the author, and the project is already being developed by creative producer Anna Nagler, whose career includes work with HBO and Netflix. Anna previously collaborated with ATM Grupa on the series The Woods.”

“For a long time, I dreamed of seeing one of my books adapted to the screen at a level comparable to productions such as The Woods or Hold Tight, based on Harlan Coben’s novels,” said Remigiusz Mróz.

“I was waiting for the right story – one that would truly work on screen – but above all for the right partner, capable of approaching the project with genuine international ambition. Today I know that it would be hard to imagine a better combination than the Report series and ATM Grupa. I believe that together we can create something that will leave a lasting mark on Polish television – and beyond.”

“We see this project as a true page-turner in series form – one that pulls viewers straight into a game of pressure, manipulation and moral choices,” explained Anna Nagler. “It is a story about a world where journalistic intervention can be both an act of courage and a dangerous transgression. The series combines genre intensity with a very contemporary and unsettling social commentary. It is a dynamic crime thriller built on a strong narrative and escalating tension, yet aimed at a broad audience. Its pace and form go hand in hand with themes that directly touch our everyday reality. At its core, the series asks fundamental questions about media responsibility, the power of storytelling and whether, in an era of disinformation and rumors, truth can still make a difference.”
