The YouTube video platform has blocked three channels of the Russian animated series Masha and the Bear in Ukraine: the Russian-, Ukrainian-, and English-language channels.

The Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

All three channels are listed in the NSDC sanctions decision enacted by a decree of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Their blocking restricts Ukrainian children’s access to this content and deprives Russia of another platform for generating revenue and exerting hybrid influence.

As previously reported, the Animaccord studio has a Ukrainian-language version of the Masha and the Bear cartoon, with revenue from YouTube views going to Russia.

Last autumn, the National Police said it was ready to participate in restricting access to the “Masha and the Bear” animated series in Ukraine if the relevant sanctions were imposed.

Earlier in August, President Zelensky signed four decrees enacting NSDC decisions on sanctions against Russia’s defense manufacturers, companies belonging to the Rusal group, collaborators, and high-ranking officials, as well as the authors and distributors of the Masha and the Bear animated series.
