CEEBeta sells ERT's The Great Chimera around the globe
Beta Film announced today that it has secured a raft of international sales for The Great Chimera, the visually striking Greek period drama adapted from M. Karagatsis’ landmark novel. The six-part series was sold in the U.S. to Global Series Network (GSN) for Walter Presents, SBS in Australia, Rai in Italy, RTVE in Spain, RÚV in Iceland, and HOT in Israel, with further deals under negotiation.
The six-hour adaptation of The Great Chimera broke viewing records when it first premiered on Greek public broadcaster ERT’s streaming service ERTFLIX, with its first two episodes reaching over one and a half million views in one week. Italian rising star Fotinì Peluso (Netflix’s Everything Calls for Salvation, Greek Salad) leads the cast as Marina, a restless young Italian woman fascinated by classical Greek culture. She falls in love with Greek shipowner Yannis, played by Andreas Konstantinou (Milky Way, Cloudy Sunday), and joins him in starting a new life on the idyllic island of Syros. Although Marina leaves her past behind, she cannot escape her growing inner turmoil. Caught between cultures and social expectations, she struggles to reconcile her passions and desires. When she gives in to her love for Yannis’s brother Minas, played by Dimitris Kitsos (The Beach, Netflix’s Maestro in Blue), she becomes trapped in a Greek tragedy of her own. The series is directed by Vardis Marinakis (Silent Road, Zizotek, Black Field), with Giorgos Valsamis (American Girl, Milky Way) as director of photography and scripts by Panagiotis Iosifelis (The Beach). The Great Chimera is produced by Foss Productions (I’m Glad You Are Dead Now, Maestro in Blue, Arcadia, Milky Way, The Beach) in co-production with ERT, Mompracem, Boo Productions, and Beta Film, who handle international sales. The Great Chimera is supported by EKKOMED Creative Greece. RELATED
