Eccho Rights takes Hungarian series to international audiences
 21 Apr 2015
Eccho Rights is shopping a new series from Hungary to international audiences. Stone in the River was launched at this year’s MIPTV attracting great interest from buyers, according to the distributors who compare the production to hits like The Bridge and Prison Break.

The series starts in 1986 when a Soviet cruise ship mysteriously disappears in Chernobyl just after the nuclear disaster. Decades later three people, all running from their past, arrive at the same hospital just as the mystery of the missing boat starts to unravel. As the trio delve deeper they discover a pharmaceutical company on the brink of bankruptcy, a history of illegal human testing and an outbreak of a mysterious virus. What they don’t realize is that the answer to the mystery lies right under the hospital. There they find evidence that links the pharmaceutical company to the illegal testing and the deadly virus.

The Hungarian production comes from Glomax Entertainment, a company established in 2012 by professionals with more than 20 years of experience in marketing and production of advertising spots. The producers started shooting the series both in 2D and 3D without securing a broadcaster and only last fall got in touch with Eccho Rights who added the series to their catalog for MIPTV 2015.

Fredrik af Malmborg, MD Eccho Rights, says they were really impressed by the production coming out of Hungary which does not have strong traditions in drama series. Talks are currently underway with Hungarian broadcasters, while other international players have also shown interest: from Poland and Ukraine to Germany and Scandinavia. The distributors are also planning to sell the remake rights after the international roll-out of the original production. Clients from Denmark, Germany and US are eager to adapt the story for their local markets.
