Russia at MIPCOM Online+

Over 30 Russian companies will present their new series, films, TV formats and animation at MIPCOM Online+, 24 of them working at the joint virtual “Made in Russia” stand, organized by Russian Export Center.

This year “Made in Russia” delegation includes Art Pictures Distribution, Planeta Inform Group of companies, Yellow Black and White, SREDA Production company, Sputnik Vostok Production, Russian World Vision, Odin media, Mirsand, All Media, Star Media, Revolution Film, Mars Media, Igmar, “Festival Eralash” company, animation studios Soyuzmultfilm, Riki Group of Companies, Aeroplan Studio, Parovoz animation studio, Wizart, Agama Film company, studios "brand4rent" and "100 kilowatt", post-production companies Flysound and Cyrillica. Aside from the national stand, MIPCOM Online+ attracts major Russian productions, channels and distributors, including Central Partnership, GPM ETV, NTV, Melnitsa Animation Studio, 1-2-3 Production, Signal Media, Sovtelexport, Digital Television Russia, Studio Friday, Metrafilms and others.

“Made in Russia” will showcase brand-new animated series and drama from Russia. NTV, 1-2-3 Production and GPM ETV will also present their newest line-up, and Yellow, Black and White will screen “Sherlock: The Russian Chronicles” series. "Dead Mountain – The Dyatlov Pass Incident", produced by Moscow-based 1-2-3 Production will be presented by Beta Film.

“MIPCOM remains the key platform for the global media industry, which now relies on international sales more than ever, and needs to exchange expertise on managing the crisis. Despite the lockdown pause in production, Russian companies will not only present well-known titles and TV formats, but work-in-progress and new series as well, like “Sherlock: The Russian Chronicles”, “Psycho”, “Six Empty Seats” and others, set to keep global audiences involved with the story and entertained, be it on lockdown or not ”, says Alexandra Modestova, CEO of Expocontent, the official representative of MIPCOM and MIPTV in Russia, Ukraine and the CIS.

“The Russian Export Center continues to support national media companies, organizing the joint "Made in Russia" national brand. This year, Russian producers can rely on new forms of state support, with REC partly covering the costs on content adaptation to foreign markets and developing international marketing campaigns. We also encourage global players to engage in co-productions and film in Russia, when it becomes possible, as international producers could benefit from the federal cash rebates system in place since last year”, says Nikita Gusakov, CEO of EXIAR, Senior Vice-President REC Group.

Art Pictures Distribution will introduce the highly-awaited series “Psycho” directed by Fedor Bondarchuk, as well as “Chicks”, starring Irina Gorbacheva (“Arrhythmia”) and counting 11 million views in 3 months after its premiere on the VOD platform more.tv in June 2020, the mystical comedy “Guests from the Past” and the sci-fi title “Successors”, which is currently in production and set for release in 2021. The company plans presales of the flagship projects for several Asian countries, and completing negotiations on “The Kitchen” TV format for several European countries.

GPM ETV (Gazprom-Media Entertainment Television) traditionally presents the line-up of different genres from several TV channels of the holding, which includes a number of TV formats: romantic show "The Secret", reality show "Soldiers girls", comedy show "Let`s face it", competition show "Sing Your Heart Out" and game show "It Takes Two to Win a Million".

The company brings comedy series "Frienemies", "Fitness", "A Family Man", drama "Call DiCaprio” by Zhora Kryzhovnikov, and a bunch of thrillers: "Third eye agency", "The Documentalist: Ghost Hunter" by Ilya Kulikov and the brand-new "IKOTKA" (produced by Good Story Media).

GPM ETV also presents its original animation projects by 2x2 TV channel "Nowhereland", "Junkfood Mafia" and "Alive Within”.

1-2-3 Production’s line-up comprises ten new projects. This includes a thriller “Six Empty Seats”, the action-packed work by Petr Todorovsky that has just been awarded The Best TV series prize of Serial Killer international festival, a feature-length drama “Masha” directed by Anastasiya Palchikova, awarded for the best debut at Kinotavr this year. Beta Film will present “Dead Mountain. The Dyaltov Pass Incident”, noir mystery drama uncovering the biggest riddle of the USSR, produced by 1-2-3 Production. The company will also highlight “Identification”, selected for Series Mania and Geneva and Moscow IFFs, “The Big Game” (Amedia Production) and a bunch of works in pre-production and open to international co-production.

The leading Russian content distributor Central Partnership will present at MIPCOM its vast catalogue of completed films: the highest-grossing Russian film “Son of a Rich” directed by Klim Shipenko, thrillers “Text” (directed by Klim Shipenko) and “The Ninth” by Nilolay Khomeriki, sci-fi action “Blackout” by Egor Baranov and animation features “The Fixies: Top Secret” and “Fixies vs. Crabots” produced by Aeroplane studio.

Yellow, Black and White and its streaming service START will present their comedy-drama series "257 Reasons to Live” as part of the Cannesseries festival - the project is the only Russian TV series selected by the jury to participate in the main competition. Beta Film is handling global sales of the title.

The highlight for MIPCOM this year is the world premiere of a new mystery thriller “SHERLOCK: The Russian Chronicles”, a co-production of Yellow, Black and White, START and an indie prod-co Sreda. The series throws a Russian spin on one of the world’s most famous characters.

The company also brings “The Cleaned Up”, "Hope", “The Conquest of Siberia", “A Good Man” and the iconic crime drama “Gold Diggers”, also known as “Russian Affairs”.

All Media, a Yellow, Black and White film distribution division, will have a market premiere of “Ten-part docuseries” by Vladimir Pozner and "My Personal Dragon" by Mila Kudryashova. The company's line-up also includes ‘pandemic’ market premieres: the web series “Star vs. Quarantine”, “Star vs. Quarantine 2”, “Isolated with Love" and feature film "Hotel Belgrade".

Sreda Production Company presents a horror “Kitchenblock” produced for VOD platform Kinopoisk HD.

At the upcoming market Friday! TV is going to show a slate of new projects: travel show “All for Free”, comedy series “Teachers in Law”, talent show “The Cover” and a new season of consumer reality “The Black List”. The channel plans to continue active negotiations with distributors and platforms from the US, Poland, Latin America, Japan and Hong Kong.

Planeta Inform Group of companies focuses on selling its well-known titles: a high-budget sci-fi feature “Coma” directed by Nikita Argunov, a biopic “AK 47” and fantasy comedy “Robo”.

One of the key offerings in NTV’s lineup will be “Secret for a Million”. The company will also present a virtual booth and a showcase featuring the channel’s best projects, including “Fatherland”, “Missing”, “Noble Detective”, “Sunshine Investigations”, “In Pursuit 2”, crime thriller “Shepherd” and a new season of “Beyond Death”.

The slate of the official distributor of Russia Television and Radio’s content, Sovtelexport, includes dramas "Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes" by Yegor Anashkin and "On the Edge" by Yevgeny Lavrentiev, period dramas "The Blood Widow" by Yegor Anashkin, "Ekaterina: Pretenders" By Dmitry Iosifov, Alexey Adrianov's "Godunov", the film adaptation of "Anna Karenina" by Karen Shakhnazarov.

In addition to the series, Sovtelexport presents new documentary films - "Kresty", "Russia. Kremlin. Putin", "The Great Unknown War", "Who are we?” and "Kursk”.

STAR MEDIA will present foreign buyers its updated catalogue with a number of premiere titles - the new season of “Detective Anna”, the first season of which is now available on Amazon Prime Video and TubiTV in several countries, thriller “Cold Shores”, detective series “The Black Sea”, the new season of “Under Military Law”, docudrama about one of the most powerful dynasties - “The Rurik Dynasty” and many others.

Mars Media Entertainment brings new romantic action/adventure drama series "The Prisoner" directed by Ivan Shurkhovetsky about the Cossack Alekha, who found himself in a foreign land in slavery by the Ottoman Sultan, crime/mystery series “The Northern Lights”, for which the company plans to close the deal with distributors from China, and a romantic comedy “The Queen”.

Metrafilms will show a new black comedy and action movie by Kirill Sokolov (known for his debut “Why don’t you just die!”) about three women from different generations of the same family, “The Dorm” - the debut feature directed by Roman Vasyanov (a Hollywood cinematographer with credits ranging from “Fury” and “Suicide Squad” to “Triple Frontier”), based on Alexei Ivanov’s novel “Dorm To Blood”, and Anna Melikyan's new feature "The Three”, awarded for the best cinematography at the 31st Kinotavr Open Russian Film Festival.

Mirsand Ltd. presents “V2 – escape from hell”, a biopic from Timur Bekmambetov now in post-production. The action driven war drama tells the story of a Soviet pilot who got captured in 1944 and imprisoned, but hijacked a German bomber that had a secret weapon in it’s cargo bay – and escaped. Another biopic from Timur Bekmambetov is “Spacewalker” about the Soviet cosmonauts who walked in outer space for the first time. “Blue whales” is a new screenlife thriller by a promising young director Anna Zaytseva (produced by Timur Bekmambetov), inspired by real event that happened in Russia a couple of years ago – with teenagers committing suicide as part of some “game” launched in special social media groups by unknown people.

Sputnik Vostok Production plans to present its new project “Elsa`s Land”, based on the play by Yaroslava Pulinovich and “Up to the sun” series.

Revolution Film will highlight sports comedy “Girls Got Game”, thriller “Run”, comedy “Mistresses” and sci-fi drama “Petropolis”.

ODIN-MEDIA will traditionally present its documentary line-up, which comprises “The Great North Way” about the Russian Arctic, docudrama “Kiselyov's List”, TV-series “Dzhulbars – The Soviet War Dog” and docudrama “Urartu. The Forgotten Kingdom” and TV-show “Combat Approved”. The company is looking for co-production partners for the historical docudrama “Kremlin: The Era Of Tsars” and plans on closing deals with Italian, Chinese, and American partners.

The film company "Eralash" will debut at MIPCOM with children`s comedy sketch show “Eralash”, which is planned to be shown for buyers from Eastern Europe and Asia, and TV show "It’s impossible!" - the company hopes to find co-production partners to create TV content for a family audience.
