Charity concert raises nearly 700.000 euros for Ukraine
During a 3-hour charity concert, which aired simultaneously on Kanal 2, Postimees online, Raadio 2 and Raadio 4 this Wednesday, were raised more than 690.000 euros for Ukraine with the help of various sponsors, Kanal 2 reports. With the collected amount, the NGO Slava Ukraini will be able to purchase and equip with humanitarian aid over 20 ambulances, which will go directly to the war zones.
'We are speechless. The result of the joint work of the Estonian people, musicians, various media companies and the concert organizers has far exceeded our expectations,' said the NGO leader Johanna-Maria Lehtme. 'For the amount of funds we've collected, we can provide not only the necessary ambulances but also pack in cars very specific medical assistance kits with bandages and gloves, which have been wanted since day one. We've prepared 9000 such kits in cooperation with the National Defense Promotion Foundation, which will reach the frontlines with the help of ambulances by the end of this month. The goal set by the concert was reached more than twice with the kind support of our sponsors. With the money raised, 23 ambulances equipped with humanitarian aid can now be sent to the zones of conflict', she added. 'We're both happy and sad at the same time. We, the people of Estonia, have been united by the pain and suffering of Ukraine. At the same time, helping others and saving each other will remain in our common memory forever,' said one of the concert organizers Mart Normet. 'The way hundreds of people came together for the common goal in a just a couple of weeks certainly gives us hope for the future'. Even after the concert, the phone lines for donations have remained open, so that the NGO's activities can still be supported: In cooperation with several organizations and private individuals, the NGO Slava Ukraini takes humanitarian aid directly to the most heated conflict zones in Ukraine in order to save lives and help hospitals and people to withstand the burdens of the war. The NGO can also be supported directly via bank transfers and more information on that can be found online. The concert was launched on the civic initiative of the Estonian musician and director Andres Kõpper, TV producers Mart Normet and Anneli Savitski, actor Mihkel Sirelpuu, producer Priit Mikk, the musicians Valter Soosalu, Terje and Ruslan Trochynskyi. Dozens of volunteers have also contributed to the cause. The concert was also supported by Alexela Concert Hall, Eventech, RGB Baltic, Levira, Fookus Pookus, Postimees Grupp, Duo Media Networks, Eesti Rahvusringhääling and many other companies and individuals with their equipment and teams.
