Lithuania bans the retransmission of TV Dozhd
In Lithuania, the cable broadcasting of the Russian TV Dozhd (TV Rain) will be banned, effective December 8, following a decision by the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission, Delfi reports.
The reason was the cancellation of the license in Latvia. The license allowed the channel the right to distribute content in the countries of the European Union, Russia, USA and others. On December 6, the National Council for Electronic Media of Latvia decided to cancel the broadcast license of Dozhd due to a threat to national security. The reason for revoking the license was the third warning from the regulator. On December 2, the TV channel was fined €10.000. The fine was imposed because "Dozhd" marked the occupied Crimea as part of Russia and called the Russian army "our army". In addition, host Alexey Korostelov called on TV viewers to help the Russian military. Also, the channel did not fulfill the requirement to accompany the Russian-language broadcast with Latvian subtitles. After the decision of the regulator, Rain lost the right to be broadcast on cable networks, but intends to continue its operation on YouTube. RELATED
